Can exercise improve grades?

Did you know that students who are physically active do better on tests? Recent research shows regular exercise boosts your brainpower. Why? It increases blood flow to the brain which improves concentration and ability to problem-solve. Physical activity speeds up brain reaction time so that learning is faster and more efficient. It even improves your mood.

Exercise isn’t just playing a team sport; it’s moving your body. Walking, throwing a Frisbee, tossing a ball, riding a bike, even vacuuming your room counts. Daily exercise – 15 to 30 minutes a day – is better than doing nothing all week then cramming 3 hours into the weekend.

It can take up to 10 minutes into any exercise session before you start to enjoy it – so just get started, and the fun takes care of itself.

This summer increase your physical activity every day. It takes 21 days for a new habit to kick in. Then, when school resumes in the new year, you’ll already be in the habit of daily exercise, leading to better grades in 2013.
